Kiwanis car show will help fulfill a sick child's wish
The public is invited to help children's dreams come true Saturday at the "Wish Upon a Car" benefit car show.
Sponsored by the Palmetto Kiwanis Club, all proceeds of the event will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation and other Kiwanis charities.
Activities will begin at 9 a.m. at the Aiken Mall, 2441 Whiskey Road.
"Any car can enter," said Angela Boyette, president of the Palmetto Kiwanis Club. "Anything from antique cars from the 1930s to modern cars with modifications."
Trophies will be awarded for all classes of vehicles at 2:30 p.m.
Door prizes will be given away; a live DJ will be present to play music and people can participate in a 50/50 raffle drawing. There will also be concessions.
"This is our fourth year, and the weather is supposed to be sunny and in the 80s," Boyette said. "We're hoping for a great turnout."
Registration will be available the day of the show from 9 a.m. until noon. The fees are $20 for the first car and $15 for each additional car.
According to its website, the Make-A-Wish Foundation has granted the wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions since 1980 and has reached more than 167,000 children around the world. The Make-A-Wish Foundation was founded after a little boy named Chris Greicius realized his heartfelt wish to become a police officer.
