A murder suspect out on bond for the 2009 shooting death of a 30-year-old Aiken man has been arrested for the second time while he awaits his trial date.

Freddie Lee Simpkins, 21, has been charged with simple possession of marijuana and has been released from the detention center a third time.

He was stopped Wednesday for careless driving on Oriole Street near Cardinal Drive after an officer reported seeing the vehicle round a sharp curve and then overcorrect.

During the traffic stop, police reported finding marijuana in Simpkins' vehicle.

The suspect was charged with simple possession of marijuana and taken to the Aiken County detention center. He was released on a $570 bond.

Simpkins and Jeremy Holloway, 21, have been linked to the Sept. 8, 2009, shooting death of 30-year-old Donald McCalla that occurred at 411 Abbeville Ave.

Simpkins' bond on weapons and a murder charge was set at $150,000. He paid bond and was released.

The following February, Simpkins had another run-in with the law, officials reported. He was charged with grand larceny and simple larceny.

He bonded out of jail on those charges, as well. His bond was set around $16,000 that time.

The solicitor's office has not released any information on Simpkins' trial date.
