A Beech Island man hospitalized Monday with injuries he sustained during a single-car crash has died.

James Nolan, 76, suffered multiple body and head trauma when the 1999 Honda SUV he was driving outside the city limits of Aiken had a blowout, and he reportedly lost control of the vehicle.

He was pronounced dead at the Medical College of Georgia on Tuesday evening from head and body trauma, said Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton.

Nolan and his wife, Lillian, were headed toward Aiken on Richland Avenue around noon Monday and were just outside the city limits when they had a blowout.

They were both taken to the Medical College of Georgia where his condition was initially listed as critical and her's as serious.

Nolan was driving westbound in a curve near the Park Avenue extension when he crossed eastbound traffic and ran into the cab of a parked semitruck, officials have reported.

Both James and Lillian Nolan were wearing seat belts; however, the driver's side of the SUV sustained the heaviest damage, officials have reported.

His death is the seventh Aiken County traffic crash fatality reported this year.
