Officials look into car vs. train crash
The Aiken County Sheriff's Office is investigating a train versus car crash in Gloverville. Investigators say no one was hurt, and the train did not derail.
The vehicle had been stolen, said sheriff's office spokesperson Capt. Troy Elwell.
"We are trying to find out who stole it and who parked it on the tracks," he said.
It is an open investigation.
Two injured in single-car crash
A crash just outside Aiken on Monday sent a Beech Island man and his passenger to the hospital with injuries from a single-car crash just east of the City of Aiken's municipal limits.
James Nolan, 76, of Beech Island, was taken to the Medical College of Georgia about noon after the 1999 Honda SUV he was driving had a blowout, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.
Both he and his passenger, Lillian Nolan, age unavailable, were restrained, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.
He is in critical condition at MCG, and she was last listed in serious condition, hospital officials said.
About noon, Nolan lost control of his vehicle, crossed into oncoming traffic and hit the cab of a parked semitruck, troopers say.
