Calling all artists, canine art wanted
A tribute to canines comes to downtown Aiken, and your dog could be on display.
The Aiken Center for the Arts has issued a call to all artists to participate in its April exhibit called "Dogs Let Loose."
The exhibition is open to all artists 18 years of age and older. All artwork must be non-representational or loose in style and must feature a dog or dogs as the main subject.
"Let your creativity flow," said Kristin Brown, executive director of the ACA. "The exhibition is open to members of the public. It will not be juried, and an artist's statement is not required."
The exhibition will be held at Aiken Center for the Arts in the Galleries, Gallery Store or Rear Foyer from April 15 until May 15. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, April 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibition is being held in partnership with the Paws for Cancer Walk on May 2 at the H. Odell Weeks Activities Center track.
Only one entry of original artwork is permitted per person. Only framed work or gallery wrapped work with painted edges and ready to hang with 5 inches or more wire for hanging and less than 20 feet by 20 feet will be accepted. All artwork must be a new piece (created within the last two years) and not previously exhibited at the ACA. The Arts Committee reserves the right to reject any piece of artwork, which, in its opinion, is not satisfactory for display.
Art should be delivered on April 11 between 10 a.m. and noon with a signed contract. A $100 People's Choice Award for each of two categories - loosest and best friend - will be given. A nominal fee will be charged for voting for the People's Choice Award, and voting will remain open throughout the entire exhibition.
Additional information and a contract are available at aikencenterforthearts.org or at 122 Laurens St. The center may be reached at 641-9094.
