Teens hospitalizedafter seizures
Two Aiken High School students were hospitalized Friday after reportedly taking prescription pain medication that sent both teenagers into seizures while on campus, officials said.
Both boys, one 18 and the other 15, reportedly took Tramadol.
The older teenager had a prescription for the medication, school officials confirmed. The teens were said to be back at school, but both face possible disciplinary action.
Counties team up on investigation
Aiken County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Sgt. Dave Myers said Monday that investigators will be working with the Richmond County Sheriff's Department as it investigates the case of a missing 12-year-old from Richland County who was found in Aiken County four days after he ran away from home.
Brett Smith had been missing since last Monday, when he was thought to have run away from home to visit his biological mother in Aiken.
According to published reports from Columbia, Richland County Sheriff's Department spokesperson Monique Mack said Smith was found walking down an Aiken County road shortly after 5:30 p.m.
Aiken County Sheriff's Office deputies said Friday afternoon they had checked with the boy's Aiken County family, but initially had no success finding him.
Officials said the Aiken County resident said she was unaware the boy was in the area.
Lawyer looks into Facebook fraud
Second Judicial Circuit Solicitor J. Strom Thurmond Jr. said Monday that prosecutors will be investigating what, if any, applicable charges might be lodged against a 20-year-old USC Aiken student who admitted to creating a Facebook account impersonating an Aiken County Republican Party leader.
On Friday, Colen Lindell contacted the Aiken Standard to make a public apology to Aiken County Republican Party Vice Chairman Daid Lobb.
Thurmond said the investigation should be completed within a few days.
Panel to discuss delaying hearing
The Planning Commission will hold a public meeting on Thursday at 5
p.m. in City Council Chambers of the Aiken Municipal Building, 214 Park
Ave. S.W., to consider postponement of the public hearing on the
proposed Highway Overlay District scheduled for Feb. 9. Officials said
the meeting is not on the merits of the district, but rather if the
meeting should be postponed. Stroke support group to meet
The Aiken Stroke and Outpatient Support Group will meet at the Aiken
Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Center on Monday, Feb. 1 from 6
to 7:30 p.m. The topic of this meeting will be "Strategies for Managing

LSWDB will have meeting Feb. 2
The Lower Savannah Workforce Development Board will have its regularly
scheduled board meeting Tuesday, Feb. 2 at 7 p.m. at Aiken Technical
College's Community Room, located in building 1300, room 1300, at 2276
Jefferson Davis Highway, Graniteville. The meeting is open to the
