Magazine takes look at Aiken
The lifestyle guide published by the creators of the Carolina Living website is providing readers with "An inside view" of Aiken in its current edition.
Aiken is featured in a four-page article by Diana Hunt in the Vol. XXI, No. 2 edition of CarolinaLiving.com magazine, available by subscription or through the carolinaliving.com website.
The article opens with a quick history of the founding of Aiken, features several couples who moved to or retired to Aiken, and includes inset featurettes on Aiken's recent history and on food, lodging and sightseeing options.
"I saw it when it was released a couple of weeks ago," said Dr. Maria Glinski, who was interviewed for the Carolina Living article. "They called and asked if I'd be willing to share why I moved to Aiken. Ironically, that's how I found out about Aiken eight years ago, we were visiting Hilton Head and I saw a Carolina Living magazine story on Aiken. We thought there can't really be a place like this, so we came to visit and then moved here."
Founded in 1986, the carolinaliving.com website offers profiles of communities in four regions of North and South Carolina: the mountains, the foothills, the heartlands and the coast. Information on Aiken can be found in the "heartlands" section of the site.
"Anytime you can get a story printed about the community, that's priceless advertising," said David Jameson, president of the Greater Aiken Chamber of Commerce. "It validates Aiken as an extraordinary retirement location, and it stimulates folks to take a closer look at the community. Then, before they know it, they realize what we realize about Aiken: that is, if you're lucky enough to live in Aiken, you're lucky enough."
The current issue of carolinaliving.com magazine will be available through May 31. For more information about the magazine, visit the website www.carolinaliving.com.
