Horse group begins Swayze scholarship
DAYTON, Ohio (AP) -- The Arabian Horse Foundation has established a scholarship in honor of the late actor Patrick Swayze and his wife, who both owned Arabian horses and competed in shows.
Foundation President Larry Kinneer of Dayton said Friday that the scholarship "creates a lasting testimony to their careers in dancing, theater and movies, love of the Arabian breed and contributions over the years to AHA youth programs."
The scholarship will be awarded each spring to a youth involved with Arabian horses who seeks a performing arts career. Swayze died in September of pancreatic cancer at age 57.
'Pulp Fiction' writer taken off jail furlough
VENTURA, Calif. (AP) -- "Pulp Fiction" co-screenwriter Roger Avary has been removed from a prison work furlough program and locked up, authorities said.
Avary was sentenced in September to a year in jail and five years' probation for causing a drunken driving car crash that killed a passenger and injured Avary's wife.
The Los Angeles Times and the Ventura County Star reported that he was jailed after allegedly Twittering about his experiences since being sentenced.
But Ventura County sheriff's spokesman Capt. Ross Bonfiglio told The Associated Press that he was jailed over security issues.
Avary and Quentin Tarantino share the 1995 Academy Award for writing "Pulp Fiction."
