World famous quintet's style ranges from classical, jazz, contemporary

The world famous Canadian Brass will perform at USC Aiken Convocation Center on Monday, March 23 at 7:30 p.m.

The quintet that started in Toronto, Ontario, in 1970 has produced more than 60 recordings that include works by Purcell, Vivaldi, Gabrieli, Pachelbel, Beethoven and Wagner and are especially drawn to the works of J.S. Bach.

Canadian Brass presents works not only in the classical repertoire, but they take daring leaps into jazz, contemporary concert music and popular songs.

Their music, published mostly by Hal Leonard, is the inspiration and musical staple of students and brass ensembles in North America and Europe.

The group is dedicated to education and interested in training the next generation of players.

While on tour, they often pause for master classes. While in Aiken, Canadian Brass will host a workshop for school band students who purchase a ticket to the show.

Tickets for band students are offered at a discounted rate. The workshop will be held at 10:30 a.m. on March 23.

Canadian Brass is the chamber quintet-in-residence at the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, Calif., and have created a brass summer course at the famous Eastman School of Music.

The quintet has appeared on such shows as "The Tonight Show," "Today" and "Entertainment Tonight" and have appeared as guest artists on Evening at Pops, the Boston Pops, Beverly Sills' Music Around the World and numerous PBS specials.

They recently released a DVD called "Three Nights with Canadian Brass" which captures the group in performance over three decades.
