Take a trip to the past: Big Mo set to open again
The Big Mo Monetta Drive-In re-opens tonight for the season.
Offering the authentic drive-in experience, the Big Mo shows double features with a full service concession stand and a play area for the kids. You control the sound volume inside your own vehicle through your car's radio.
This Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the Big Mo Monetta Drive-In will be showing Paul Blart: Mall Cop (PG) and Marley & Me (PG) on screen 1 and Twilight (PG-13) and Slumdog Millionaire (R) on screen 2.
Grabbing dinner at the Big Mo isn't a problem as the concession stand offers hot dogs, hamburgers, sausage dogs, corn dogs, BBQ sandwiches, popcorn, peanuts, pizza, nachos, ice cream, candy and soft drinks. Attendees are asked not to bring grills.
Gates open at 6:30 p.m. with the first show on each field starts at dusk. Admission is $7 per adult (12 & up), $3 for children ages 4 to 11 and free for children 3 and under. Tickets may only be purchased with cash; however, credit cards are accepted at the concession stand.
On March 26, the Big Mo Monetta Drive-In will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a special celebration.
The Big Mo, originally established in 1951, ensures a new generation of moviegoers have the opportunity to enjoy the authentic atmosphere of the drive-in. Owners Richard and Lisa Boaz persisted in their desire to resurrect The Big Mo, which had been on a 13-year hiatus, and brought the theater back to life in 1998. Check the website, www.thebigmo.com, for details as plans are finalized for the anniversary celebration.
Upcoming movies include Race to Witch Mountain, Watchmen, Monsters and Aliens, 17 Again, X-Men Origins, Wolverine and Star Trek. Each ticket includes viewing of two movies; however, you may not switch fields unless you purchase additional tickets.
The official address of The Big Mo is 5822 Columbia Highway North, Monetta. From Aiken take Hwy 1 approximately 25 minutes and the Big Mo will be on the right hand side.
