Weston bankruptcy a 'win-win'
12/10/2009 12:38 AM
The Margaret J. Weston Community Health Centers has been a rock for health care for thousands of Aiken County residents over the years.

Offering health services to many underserved residents of the county, the Weston Centers has been the provider of health care for many. Its continued operation to support the health-related needs of its customers is essential.

That is why the recent move to file for bankruptcy is so important for the Weston Centers, its creditors and its patients.

Filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy will allow the Weston Centers to remain open, ensuring patients of uninterrupted care, while permitting the organization to work toward meeting its financial obligations.

According to Weston Centers CEO Carolyn Emmanuel-McClain, the filing was needed because of an outstanding court judgment against the Clearwater-based health center. The court filing will not alter the day-to-day operation of the Weston Centers.

"Our patients will not notice a thing," Ms. Emmanuel-McClain said.

The decision to work with the justice system to repay debts while remaining a viable health care facility for those in need is a win-win situation that will ultimately make for a stronger, more financially sound center.
