Christians are celebrating Easter Sunday
Christian Holy Week culminates today with the celebration of Easter - the day of resurrection of Jesus Christ.
For the tens of thousands of Christians in Aiken County, this is a day of high celebration with the sounds of hallelujahs pouring out of packed churches from Monetta to Jackson, from Wagener to North Augusta and every town and city in between.
Over the past six weeks Christians have used the Lenten season to reflect on their faith. Today their waiting is rewarded with the resurrection message.
Easter brings with it a season of change and a promise of enduring life. It is perhaps no coincidence that it occurs in spring when the eruption of colorful flowers introduces the renewal of life following the bleak winter season.
For the serious Christian, Easter is not about bunny rabbits, eggs and candy. It is rather a message of love and of hope. Christians today sing their praise and adoration for the event which singly changed human history - the raising from the tomb of Jesus and the promise of salvation for mankind. The Christian world sings in unison the message of the day, "Christ is risen. He is risen indeed."
