EDITORIAL: DOE reassigns Allison at SRS
For the past seven years Jeff Allison has been the Department of Energy's manager for the Savannah River Site. As of Tuesday, Allison was no longer in that position.
DOE reassigned Allison to the position of director of special projects at Savannah River Site, replacing him with Jack Craig, a longtime DOE employee.
Allison has served capably during his tenure at SRS and earned the respect of the Site's contractors who worked under his watch as well as leaders from the communities surrounding SRS who dealt with him. Allison and his family obviously found comfort in the Aiken community as he refused a move to another destination last year.
Unfortunately, the last few months of the Allison tenure as DOE manager at SRS was tainted by internal bickering among DOE personnel. Allison and others got caught up in DOE politics which may have resulted in his being pushed aside.
The Site is fortunate to retain Allison's experience in his new position, and the local communities can be assured of a familiar DOE face in the special projects position.
Jeff Allison is to be commended for the admirable job that her performed as manager of SRS during the past seven years. It is expected that he will make more important contributions to the nation with his continued service at SRS.
