Equine Divine to hold fundraiser for White

Aiken resident Heidi White is headed to Hong Kong to represent the United States as a member of the Olympic eventing team.

White and her 15-year-old bay British Thoroughbred gelding Northern Spy will be making the sojourn, and Equine Divine is doing its part to help defray the expense by holding a fundraiser Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m.

The art gallery is also hosting a reception featuring the work of three new artists.

"This is a great opportunity to make a little noise for Aiken's own Olympians Heidi White and Phillip Dutton," said Lydia Del Rossi of Equine Divine. "Heidi flies under the radar. Her family is hands-on, and the mayor is good friends of the family. We wanted to bang the gong for Heidi. Nothing is a big deal until you make it a big deal."

Supporters can donate to the Heidi White Fund, and on Saturday they can make donations to the Wishing Well Bowl, said Del Rossi.

"The trip to England and then to Hong Kong for Heidi and her horse is unbelievably expensive," said Del Rossi. "Silent donations are being accepted, and there will be posters for sale of Heidi, featuring a picture taken by Suzan McHugh."

The community has an opportunity to rally around one of the nation's elite athletes and help White and Northern Spy achieve White's dreams while representing the nation in the world's most important sport spectacle.

"We're donating a portion of the sales from this weekend, Friday through Sunday, to the Heidi White fund, our very own Olympic team member," said Del Rossi.
