Aiken Electric Cooperative recently awarded three $1,000 college scholarships to local graduating high school seniors.
One $1,000 Trustee scholarship was awarded to Tanya Maria Coleman of Saluda and $1,000 Touchstone Energy® scholarships were awarded to Jamie Marie Flores of Edgefield and Zachary Joseph Moulton of Graniteville.
The Trustee scholarship, personally funded by the Cooperative's Trustees, was awarded to Tanya Coleman, a graduate of Saluda High School. She plans to attend Lander University and study sociology, political and social science.
The Touchstone Energy scholarships are awarded to graduating high school seniors, one planning to attend a four-year university or college and another planning to enroll in a two-year technical school. Selection for this scholarship is based on academics, extracurricular activities, community involvement, self-analysis, and an essay.
Zachary Moulton of Midland Valley High School was awarded the scholarship for a four-year university or college. He plans to attend Clemson University and major in engineering. He was the Beta Club vice-president, on the Academic Team, on the J. Gresham Barrett Student Advisory Panels, a recipient of the Palmetto Fellows scholarship and was one of four Aiken Electric Cooperative 2007 Washington Youth Tour Representatives.
The winner of the two-year, technical school scholarship is Jaime Flores of Strom Thurmond High School. She plans to attend Piedmont Technical College where she will major in agriculture education. She has been a member of Future Farmers of America (FFA) and the National Beta Club; she was on the National Honor Society, was a S.C. Junior Scholar and has earned several awards in FFA.
Aiken Electric is a customer-owned, nonprofit electric utility currently serving more than 44,000 member-owners in a nine-county area in South Carolina. High school seniors whose primary residence is served by Aiken Electric Cooperative are eligible to apply for the scholarships.
