NORTH AUGUSTA -- Grace United Methodist Church was the site of a coronation Saturday evening as Miss Aiken S.C., Miss Aiken Teen S.C., Miss North Augusta S.C., and Miss North Augusta Teen S.C. for 2007-08 handed over their crowns to next year's beauty queens.
While the panel of judges made their decisions in the fields of 10 teen contestants and seven misses contestants, the reigning queens -- Miss North Augusta S.C. Amanda Williamson, Miss North Augusta Teen S.C. Mary Helen Caver, and Miss Aiken Teen S.C. Kaleigh Hill, said their farewells. Miss Aiken S.C. Elizabeth Smith was overseas, and her written farewells were read to the audience by emcee Trisha Robbins.
After an evening that included swimsuit, evening gown and interview competitions, the judges made the final calls.
In the Teen competition, Chelsea Smith was named Miss Congeniality and Hillary Bradshaw was named Most Photogenic, while Lauren Rickabaugh won the swimsuit competition. Second runner-up was Lacey Ferguson and first runner-up was Lauren Rickabaugh. Receiving the Miss North Augusta Teen S.C. title was Courtney Turner, and Hillary Bradshaw was crowned Miss Aiken Teen S.C.
In the Misses division, Kelli Hair was named Miss Congeniality; Brittany Price was named Most Photogenic; and Amy Caver won the swimsuit competition. Second runner-up was Bralyn VanZee, and Brittany Price was first runner-up. Amy Caver was crowned Miss North Augusta S.C., and Brittany Capps took the title of Miss Aiken S.C.
Title winners receive the entry fees to the Miss South Carolina USA/Teen USA pageants, their crowns, sashes and crown pins, flowers from Bush Florist, pageant headshots by photographer Will Tullis, gift certificates from Gregory Ellenberg, Dazzles, LT's Formal and Foxy Lady, an interview session with Kathy Cobb, a workout session with Mike Mauney, a photo shoot with Jonathan Carter of Carter Studios and a fitness program from Pageant Physiques.
The panel of judges included Denise Warkenthein, Cynthia Robinson and Coy Watkins for the Teen division and Tony Adams, Dr. Ben Brown and Kecia Garland for the Misses division, with Melinda Aranda as judges chairman and Faith Bragg as auditor.
The Miss Aiken/North Augusta S.C. and Miss Aiken/North Augusta Teen S.C. Pageant was sponsored by M & M Productions.

Unlike Lexington County, make sure that our Miss Teen has at least two functional brain cells. Please, no more shame for our state on the national stage. "Like, ya know, U.S. Americans..." What happened to the day when a pageant was more than the meat-market contest? Call me silly and nostalgic, but at one time, there was a mental requirement and skills other than shaking one's rear end on stage. I think it's high time that we bring those criteria back. That would weed out 2/3 of the bubbleheads with stuffed bras, now.
