Meybohm Realtors broke open a few bottles of the red and white for a wine tasting reception in honor of the company's new affiliation with Christie's Great Estates.

The reception was held Wednesday evening in the Laurens Center condominium complex, a Meybohm Fine property, with wines, cheeses, crackers and both Meybohm and Christie's brochures and publications for browsing.

"Christie's is the great art auction house, and this is their real estate division," said Meybohm's Aiken area manager Carolyn Moore.

Meybohm's vice president and general manager Bill Boatman said, "We have a number of luxury properties listed in the Aiken market that need to have exposure. We can have exposure very easily locally, but we needed a way to have exposure for them nationally. Christie's migrated some years back into real estate, and we're really thrilled to have this exclusive affiliation with them for the lower South Carolina and Georgia region."

Christie's Great Estates provides national exposure for properties listed through its affiliates by way of a magazine, with a readership of 280,000 and distribution targeted to the most affluent locales. Properties are also listed on the Christie's Great Estates website.

"For us, this Aiken to Augusta market has really come into its own in the last couple of years. Prices in this market have gone up to the level where this affiliation makes sense for us. Generally we market properties in excess of $1 million; here, we'll be marketing properties in excess of $600,000. A few years ago the market in this area hadn't reached those levels, but now there are plenty of listings there. Meybohm fit our profile; their local agents are known as leading sellers," said Richard Moeser, vice president of the Southeast region for Christie's Great Estates.

"What's most attractive for me is that Aiken has so many historic homes, so many unique properties with history to them. Aiken was always the winter home of the greats of industry at the turn of the century, and we specialize in those kinds of locations. Driving around Aiken today and actually seeing those properties was really amazing," Moeser said.
