Aiken real estate agents tried a hand at serving lunch for a good cause Wednesday.
Members of the Aiken Board of Realtors filled in as waiters and waitresses at Outback Steakhouse, serving their co-workers, friends, family and special guests to raise money for the board's first-ever Habitat for Humanity build.
Outback opened early Wednesday specifically for the event.
The restaurant was filled with good cheer as real estate agents joked with their servers that they wanted comment cards to rate their experience.
Carolyn Moore, manager of the Meybohm Realty office, said this was the first time she had ever been a waitress in her life.
"We're getting excellent help from the Outback people," she said. "They opened just for us."
Board of Realtors Association Executive Kristyne Blake said half of the meal ticket price will go to the house build, as well as all tips and proceeds from a raffle, which included a watch from Floyd & Green Jewelers.
"This is for Realtors, friends, family, everybody," Blake said. "A Habitat house is a big project. Everyone deserves a home, and that's what our Realtors work for every day. Habitat is so excited, so pleased to partner with us."
The board has raised $30,000 for the build so far, a figure that does not include the proceeds raised Wednesday. That figure was unavailable.
The Aiken Board of Realtors plans to break ground on the house in September in the Warren Ridge subdivision.
The home is slated to be the 73rd Habitat house in Aiken County.
