Martha Ann Burckhalter

Martha Ann Morris Burckhalter, 80, widow of Henry Nelson Burckhalter, died Monday, June 16, 2008, at her residence.

A native of Centenary, Mrs. Burckhalter was a daughter of the late Jerome and Florence Wilburn Morris. She lived most of her life in Aiken and was a graduate of Aiken High School. She worked as a receptionist for Dr. Roundtree for many years and also worked as a bookkeeper for several other businesses in Aiken. Mrs. Burckhalter was a member of Memorial Baptist Church. She and her late husband were co-founders of the Aiken Wood Carvers Club. She was an artist and won many awards for her artistry in china painting and wood carving.

Survivors include her daughter, Janet Burckhalter of Aiken; three sisters, Florence (Dr. Norman) Pursley and Risa (Kenny) Newsome, both of Lincolnton, Ga., and Mary Alice Lockhart of Aiken; three brothers, Jerome Morris Jr. and Wilburn (Becky) Morris, both of Aiken, and Dr. Bill (Glenda) Morris of Spartanburg; a granddaughter, Laurie (Lee) Moore of Neptune Beach, Fla.; four great-grandchildren, Christopher, Michael, Rebekah and Sydney Moore; and three sisters-in-law, Eloise Burckhalter, Elizabeth Walton and Minnie McKenna, all of Aiken. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Diane Burckhalter McFarland.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 19, 2008, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home, 715 E. Pine Log Road, Aiken, with Rev. Ed Newsome and Frank Allen Walton officiating. Interment will follow in Aiken Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the residence and also from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Frances Watts Boatwright

CLEARWATER -- Funeral services for Mrs. Frances Watts Boatwright, of 1001 Bleachery St., Clearwater, will be on Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Hatcher Funeral Home Chapel. Friends may call from noon until service time at Hatcher Funeral Home and Cremation Service, U.S. Highway 1, Langley.

Susan Hendricks

WINDSOR -- Mrs. Susan Hendricks, 39, of Colbert Bridge Road, entered into rest June 16, 2008, at Eisenhower Army Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday, June 19, 2008, at Old Macedonia Baptist Church with the Rev. Limuer Myers officiating.

Mrs. Hendricks, a native of Kentucky, was a U.S. Army veteran and a social worker.

Survivors include her husband, William Rodney Hendricks; a daughter, Dorian Hendricks; two sons, Ian Hendricks and Elliott Hendricks, both of Windsor; her mother, Ada McKie White of North Augusta; a sister, Lisa (Michael) Solenberger of Windsor; four brothers, David (Greta) White of Windsor, Michael (Naomi) White and Johnathan (Kimberly) White, both of North Augusta, and Christopher (Amy) White of Blackbird, Ky.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Elijah MacArthur Brunson

Mr. Elijah MacArthur Brunson, 32, of Lancaster Street, entered into rest June 15, 2008, at his residence. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. Mr. Brunson, a native of Aiken County, was a member of Ascending Faith Church Ministries.

Survivors include his wife, Jennifer Gunnells Brunson; two sons, Elijah Brunson and Evan Brunson; his parents, Diane Brunson and Elijah Brunson; stepparents, Lumisha and Michael Flemings; six sisters, Patricia (Acie) Brown and Martha (Wayne) Folks, both of Hephzibah, Ga., Tara Oliphant of Aiken, Sharon (Kevin) Brunson of Jackson, Tamika (Corey) Watkins of Ridge Spring and Sydney Brunson of Augusta, Ga.; three brothers, Darren (Denise) Brunson and Bennett Morris, both of Aiken, and Equar (Tiffany) Morris of Augusta; grandparents, Bishop Emmanuel Spearman of Hodges, and Earthel Mack of Aiken; great-grandmother, Willie B. Parkes of Greenwood; father- and mother-in-law; and a host of other relatives and friends.

McKinley 'Bubba' Chavous Jr.

RIDGE SPRING -- Funeral services for McKinley "Bubba" Chavous Jr., 53, who passed away Friday, June 13, 2008, will be held 2 p.m. today at St. Mark Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Myers officiating. Burial will follow in the Chavous Family Cemetery, Graymare Hollow Road of Aiken.

He leaves to cherish his memory: Brendia Miller of Ridge Spring; seven children; two grandchildren; and his parents, McKinley Sr. and Mattie Mae Chavous, Aiken.

Mr. Chavous will lie in state at the church from 1 p.m. until the hour of service. Friends may call at the residence of his parents, 1435 Park Avenue S.E., Aiken, or at Jackson-Brooks Funeral Home.

Jane Loretta Edwards

Jane Loretta (Atwood) Edwards, 93, died peacefully on June 15, 2008. Born Dec. 31, 1914, in Norwich, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Warren and Loretta (Powers) Atwood. She was married for 56 years to Francis Irwin Edwards, who predeceased her in 1990.

Survivors include two daughters, Virginia Tosko (Tom) of Aiken and Constance Hagar of Charlotte, N.C.; one son, Warren Edwards (Donna) of Heathrow, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was loved dearly and will be missed by all.

A memorial service and entombment will be held Saturday, June 21, 2008, in Colonie, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the charity of one's choice in memory of Jane Edwards. Daniel Keenan Funeral Home Inc., Albany, N.Y., (518) 463-1594, is in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy Q. Jackson

WAGENER -- Mrs. Dorothy "Dot" Quattlebaum Jackson, 80, entered into rest Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at Mattie C. Hall Health Care.

Mrs. Dot was the widow of Maurice B. Jackson Jr., the daughter of the late Reuben Olin and Rennie Corine Brodie Quattlebaum. She was also predeceased by sisters, Lorene Swartz, Helen Swartz and Frances Stillman, and brothers, Melvin Quattlebaum, Herbert Quattlebaum, L. H. Quattlebaum, Frank Quattlebaum and Albert Quattlebaum. She is survived by sister-in-law Pat Quattlebaum, and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Jackson was born in Aiken County. She was a secretary for the Aiken County School District and retired after more than 40 years of working in the dry cleaning business with her husband as the two of them owned and operated Jackson Cleaners. She was a member of Wagener United Methodist Church.

Visitation for Mrs. Jackson will be Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Wagener Chapel of Blizzard Funeral Home, 163 Main Street South (803) 564-5333. A graveside service will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Wagener Cemetery with the Rev. Chris Addy officiating. Wilbur W. McKie

GRANITEVILLE -- Mr. Wilbur W. McKie, 62, entered into rest June 17, 2008, at Heartland Hospice. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

Mr. McKie, a native of Aiken County, was a member of Mims Grove Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Styron (Desara) McKie, Graniteville; a daughter, Wanda (Elimuer) Robinson, Wellford; six sisters, Juanita Patten, Forest Hills, N.Y., Rosetta (James) Newsome, Graniteville, Connie (Henry) Avery, Augusta, Ga., Jennifer (Lenny) Antoine-Jenkins, Boston, Mary Judge, Carolyn (Albert) Trowell, Graniteville; three brothers, Levi (Mary) McKie Jr., Heyward McKie, Graniteville, and Everett McKie, North Augusta; six grandchildren, uncle, Arthur (Mildred) McKie, Graniteville, aunts, Willie Mae (J.B.) Walker, Augusta, and Pearl McKie, Philadelphia; godson, Ryan Trowell, Graniteville; a host of other relatives and friends. Friends may call at the residence of Rosetta (James) Newsome, 30 Stephens Road, Graniteville.
