The 7- and 8-year-old team from Belvedere entered the Dixie Youth Baseball Tournament in Jackson fresh off of a 19-0 mark in their C-League campaign as the Yankees.

The team faced elimination Monday against a group from Barnwell, and though they lost, they gave their faithful fans a rally to remember.

Down 8-1 after three innings, the group cut the deficit to 8-4; down 10-4 as they entered the bottom of the sixth and final inning, Belvedere put fear in the hearts of the Barnwell players as it trimmed the deficit to 10-7.

"Ya'll never gave up," Belvedere coach Tra' Mitchem said. "Good job, and I'm proud of you."

Belvedere's players included Trevor Henry, Jared Bass, Cameron Mitchem, Daniel Hayne, Tanner Mayson, Daniel Hutto, Cole Saggus, Morgan Burgess, A.J. Randall-McGhee, Anthony Sharp, T.J. Hill and Ethan Sinclair.

Barnwell advanced to play Midland Valley today at 4 p.m. in Jackson.

In Monday's other elimination game, North Augusta's Gold team jumped out to a 7-0, first-inning lead

en route to a 24-6, four-inning win over Silver Bluff.

North Augusta's Hunter Cadiere and Garrett Whitfield each went 4-for-4 for the Gold squad, which will face Edisto American today at 6 p.m.

Jordan Flanders went 3-for-4 for the Gold team, while teammate Josh Gordon went 3-for-4.

Silver Bluff had a pair of bright spots; aside from a six-run third inning, Ronnie Perez went 2-for-2 for Silver Bluff.

Perez, Kevin Hood, Skeet McCorkle, Jamar Trotie, Dylan Cannady, Desmond Lawrence, T.J. Green, Brad Wilson, John Green, Aaron White, Kel Corbett and Den Jackson represented Silver Bluff's roster.

Cadiere, Whitfield, Flanders, Gordon, Christian Boulton, Michael Burt, Caleb Godbee, Jonathon Niegowski, Hunter Shivers, Bryan St. Germaine, Jack Wells and Philip Colvin - nephew of former North Augusta High School and Clemson standout Tyler Colvin - filled out the North Augusta Gold roster.

In the winners' bracket nightcap, Gregg Park and Edisto American battled to advance to tonight's 8 p.m. game against North Augusta's Black team.

Gregg Park's five-run second inning clinched the win for the Graniteville-based group, which wrapped up a 12-2, four-inning win.

The highlight of the contest was a three-run, inside-the-park home run from Blake Slavin, who hit a rope down the heart of the field, hustled around the bases and jumped into a coach's arms after the feat.

Gregg Park jumped out to an 8-0 lead through three innings before Edisto trimmed the lead to 8-2 in the top of the fourth on an RBI triple and a sacrifice RBI.

Gregg Park shut the door in the bottom half of the frame, the clinching hit a double from Jarett Kelly.

Slavin went 2-for-2, as did teammate Nick Sandifer. Gregg Park's D.J. Ludwick went 3-for-3 with three RBI.

Gregg Park's 7- to 8-year-old group included Sandifer, Kelly, Ludwick, Slavin, Bryan Melvin, Ethan Pifer, Austin Batculer, Will Ferguson, Braxton Corley, Tanner White, Zac Anderson and Brandon Goings.
