Mother, 3 children killed in Dillon, S.C., house fire

DILLON, S.C. (AP) — A mother and her three young children have died in a house fire in Dillon in northeastern South Carolina.

The Dillon Fire Department told WBTW-TV in Florence that the house was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Kathy Sowell said her nephew lived in the home with his wife and three children, ages 2, 3 and 4. Sowell said her nephew was able to get out, but he was unable to save his family.

A message left with the Dillon County coroner’s office was not immediately returned.

There was no immediate indication on the cause of the fire.
