A 41-year-old man is in jail on allegations he kicked in the door at a Gloverville home early Saturday morning and then dragged his girlfriend out of bed and beat her, according to arrest warrants.
William Glen Beck, of the 200 block of Hackney Street, is charged with kidnapping, assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and first-degree burglary.
Beck was taken to a local hospital for two broken hands. He is now being held at the Aiken County detention center, according to deputies.
The Gloverville man is accused of kicking in the door at an Alley Street home in Gloverville just after 2:30 a.m. Saturday. His girlfriend had been staying there with a friend. Deputies described the friend as a 67-year-old man who was also at the home during the home invasion.
After the break-in, the attacker reportedly grabbed the victim by her hair and pulled her out of bed, throwing her on the floor. He then knocked her down and repeatedly hit her and kicked her in the face and head, deputies said.
She told deputies later she had asked the man several times if she could leave and he would not let her go. Investigators note that the man had been drinking alcohol.
The victim said she was eventually able to calm him down and then convinced him to get some sleep. While he slept, she said she sneaked out and then called the sheriff's office for help.
The 67-year-old Alley Street resident told deputies he saw the assailant attack the woman.
She was taken to the emergency room where she was treated for several injuries. The victim was reportedly bleeding heavily from a two-inch cut on her scalp and had several cuts on her face, according to deputies.
Investigators talked with the accused attacker at the Alley Street home and noticed his hands were bloody and swollen, deputies say.
He told deputies he and the victim had been in a "physical altercation" but had injured himself punching a wall.
Bond on the kidnapping and assault charges is set at $60,000.
He will be held until a general sessions court date on the burglary charge.
