GRANITEVILLE -- Completed life's journey and entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, May 7, 2008, Mrs. Shirley Sterling Ivey, age 72, of Graniteville, loving wife of more than 56 years to Robert E. Lee Ivey Jr. and daughter of the late J.D. Sterling and the late Evelyn Hill Sterling.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughters, Teresa (Cecil) Scott of Graniteville and Sharon Harley of Warrenville; sons, Steve Ivey of Graniteville and Kevin (Elaine) Ivey of North Augusta; a brother, Malcolm Sterling of Beech Island; a sister, Betty Jean Wilkins of Beech Island; eight grandchildren, Dana Richardson, Jason (Deonne) Whaley, Brad (Ashley) Ivey, Brandi (Freddie) Busbee, Staci (Tony) Smith, Kayla Scott, Brittany Ivey and Wesley Ivey; one great-grandchild, Gavin Ivey; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was born in Bath and was a lifelong resident of Aiken County. She was an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Graniteville. She was a member of the Episcopal Church Women and a member of the church choir. She was also a member of the 1976 Bicentennial Choir. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who was always giving and putting others first above herself. She was known as the cake lady, as she baked many cakes for many people in her lifetime. Yes, she will surely be missed by everyone whose life she touched, but there is a consolation in knowing that her life has not ended but just begun in a place with no more pain or sorrow.
