SRNS head outlines changes

The new management and operations contractors for Savannah River Site unveiled themselves Monday at a press conference.
Savannah River Nuclear Solutions CEO Chuck Munns described outlined his plans for a "stable, safe and successful transition" from longtime operators Washington Savannah River Company.
"Change is on the doorstep," Munns said.
On Friday, SRNS received a "Notice to Proceed" statement from the U.S. Department of Energy for the Management and Operations (M&O) contract. A 90-day transition period will begin immediately; SRNS will assume site operational responsibilities in mid-summer.
WSRC's parent company, URS Washington, filed an appeal in January with the U.S. Government Accountability Office to keep the contract after the U.S. Department of Energy awarded it to SRNS.
WSRC has been the primary contractor for 18 years.
On Monday, Munns highlighted that while his company hopes to improve the M&O of the site, for the vast majority of those who currently work at the site, very little will be different.
SRNS plan to engage the workforce soon with a series of town hall- style meetings as well as more personal contact. The company expects 99 percent of the current workforce to be retained with little real change in pay, benefits, retirement and ancillary issues.
"Let me ask them to continue working safely, securely and efficiently," Munns said. "They should expect to do what they have in the past.
The change, Munns believes, will come from SRNS' breadth of knowledge and the capabilities of the two dozen new managers that will be brought in.
"The management has been together for a year now and is eager to go to work," he said. "We are happy to continue our service to the people on the site and the country."
