In a fast paced world where people rarely seem to stop, it seems a new manner for reaching out and ministering to the community has become necessary.
Local prayer line volunteer Marge Glauser of Aiken has been donating her time to the Guide Posts prayer line for the last few years and has found the outreach to not only help her bless others but to be a blessing to her own life. "I have found this volunteer job very worth while and rewarding especially since I am now retired and have difficulty getting about physically because of a knee problem," writes Glauser. She encourages others to become involved with the program.
People tend to have a favorite place to pray such as a quiet room, outdoors, in a car, at work and more. Increasingly as the world becomes more computer and technology driven, people have begun to pray online.
The Outreach Division of Guideposts is currently restructuring the online component of its prayer ministry by launching OurPrayer.org. The new sight utilizes state of the art networking technology with user-friendly tools such as Chat with video, IM with video, designing and setting up a Personal Prayer Space page, Group prayer, Photo sharing and Prayer journals. OurPrayer.org will also provide users with exclusive site content, downloadable content, more audio and video, devotionals, prayers, prayer tips, inspiring articles, a daily email and weekly e-newsletters for members and more.
According to information provided by Guide Posts a key element of OurPrayer.org will be maintaining and enhancing the ability to take prayer requests with the unique commitment to pray by name and need for each individual request received. Anyone with a prayer request may visit the site and will have a variety of options to include private or public requests.
The site also offers visitors real time prayer. This provides the ability to have a one-on-one real time prayer session with one of the organizations volunteers.
OurPrayer.com is free to join and easy to use. In addition they are seeking hundreds of volunteers to help handle the increased number of prayer requests that come through on the site. Anyone wishing to become a prayer volunteer can find out more by visiting www.OurPrayer.org or calling 1-800-935-0158 ext. 4347.
