Tickets on sale for USCA production
Tickets are on sale for USC Aiken's University Theatre production of "Goodnight Desdemona, Good Morning Juliet," scheduled at the Etherredge Center, debuting Thursday and running through March 31.
The production is a comedic outtake on two of Shakespeare's best-known tragedies, "Romeo and Juliet" and "Othello." The story focuses on a Ph.D. candidate, Constance Ledbelly (Chelsea Cook), who is convinced an obscure document will prove that those famous plays originally were comedies, not tragedies.
Along the way, Constance mysteriously disappears into a wastebasket and comes face to face with Desdemona (Stephanie Sexton), Othello (Matt Cabbil), Romeo (Bobby Bloom) and Juliet (Julie Broadway). "Goodnight Desdemona, Good Morning Juliet" is full of twists, fights, dances and lots of wild surprises.
For more information or tickets, call the Etherredge Center box office at 641-3305. Performance times are Thursday through March 29 at 8 p.m., March 30 at 2 p.m. and March 31 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults; $12 for seniors, faculty and staff; and $7 for students.
Meeting to address underage drinking
A town hall meeting related to underage drinking prevention will be held at USC Aiken's Business & Education building, room 122, Tuesday, April 1 at 6 p.m.
The Aiken Center for Alcohol and Other Drug Services is sponsoring the event. Its partners include the 2nd Judicial Circuit Alcohol Enforcement Team, USCA Police Department, Substance Abuse Free Environment (SAFE) Team of Aiken County and the USCA chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority.
Aiken Mayor Fred Cavanaugh will proclaim April 2008 as Alcohol Awareness Month during the meeting. The proclamation also encourages all citizens to support the Aiken Center's Alcohol Enforcement Team in reducing underage drinking.
Underage drinking is linked to youth depression, academic failure and violence, said Aiken Center staffer Alphia Dunbar. The Aiken Center's Alcohol Enforcement Team, she said, encourages community involvement in creating awareness about the issues surrounding underage drinking and youth access to alcohol.
Refreshments and door prizes will be available. For more information, e-mail Dunbar at adunbar@aikencenter.org or Harold Crawford at hcrawford@aikencenter.org.
