Carrie Hassler and Hard Rain coming to Aiken

The grass will be turning blue on Newberry Street soon, thanks to Carrie Hassler and Hard Rain.
The bluegrass band will bring its Bluegrass Radio No. 1 hit "Seven Miles From Wichita" and other traditional-style songs to Aiken with a concert at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 3, at the Washington Center for the Arts on Newberry Street. The show is sponsored by the Aiken Performing Arts Group.
"They had a record that was No. 1 on Bluegrass Radio and No. 1 on Billboard magazine's list of new bluegrass recordings," said Aiken Performing Arts Group president Tom Hofstetter. "Once we identified that, we listened to the group, heard Carrie Hassler sing, and we thought they would be perfect for us to introduce to Aiken audiences."
The Pikeville, Tenn., based group's first CD, "Carrie Hassler and Hard Rain," was released in late 2006 on the Rural Rhythm label.
The CD also features such tracks as "Going on the Next Train," "If These Walls Could Talk" and a cover of Patsy Cline's classic "Leavin' On Your Mind."
The group's Aiken stop will also include several outreach visits to local schools and a jam session at Southside Gallery's Cafe Monet following the concert.
"I think the role of the Aiken Performing Arts Group is to provide a variety of entertainment to a variety of audiences; that's the business we're in," said Hofstetter. "This is our first attempt at bringing a bona fide bluegrass act to Aiken. We have this bluegrass festival that's very successful here in Aiken, so we knew the audience for this music was there."
Tickets to the concert are $40 or $20 for students with valid ID. Discounts are available for groups of 15 or more. Tickets to the Cafe Monet jam session are $25.
