Gentlemen, start your engines. The first-ever Automotive Driving Challenge is happening Saturday at six local automotive dealerships.
Sponsored by the Aiken Standard and Badcock Home Furniture & More, the Challenge gives drivers a chance to find their dream vehicles and a shot at some prizes to boot. The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
Taking part in the Challenge are Dick Smith Chrysler, Henna Chevrolet & Cadillac, Honda Cars of Aiken, Johnson Motor Company of South Carolina, Satcher Ford Lincoln Mercury, and Triangle Dodge.
"We tried to think of a way to bring the new car dealerships on the Aiken-Augusta Highway together," said Aiken Standard automotive account executive Diane Daniell.
Grand prizes for the Challenge are a 26-inch Phillips LCD HD TV set and a leather recliner valued at $500, and door prizes will be given out at most participating dealerships. Johnson Motor Co. also invites participants to join the staff for a cookout of hamburgers and hot dogs Saturday afternoon.
Drivers in the Challenge should register at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Badcock Home Furniture & More on Richland Avenue. The next step: Cruise in to at least three of the six participating dealerships for a test drive. Once test drives of new vehicles have been competed at three dealerships, the test driver's name will be entered for the grand prize drawings.
The grand prizes will be drawn for at 4 p.m. Saturday at Badcock Home Furniture. Entrants need not be present to win, according to Daniell.
"This event is to generate floor traffic and to give dealers a chance to show off their products and staffs," Daniell said.
